PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT HOUR

What does your last decade tell you?

As we come to the beginning of another year, we are also closing out another decade.  This is unlike the past 9 years because it is a mile marker for most people.  When we get to the end of a decade we tend to look not just at the last year, but at the last 10 years of our life.  What do we see?  Are we happy with the growth we have had?  Are we satisfied with where we are now? Or is it a time of reflection that we have not done the things we told ourselves we would accomplish?  Is it a time of self deprecation as we realize that we are in the same place we were 10 years ago and the goals we had set are nowhere in sight?

Let’s really take a look at what we have accomplished in the past 10 years.  Though we may be fighting with ourselves on the things we have not accomplished, lets first start with what we have done.  It works best when you actually write these things down.  Do not judge where you wanted to be, or what you wanted to actually accomplish, but just write down the things that were good and that you did accomplish.  Remember, a goal half reached is not failed, but half won, because progress has been made!  Find those wins.  Find the good things that happened.  Here are a few examples of the things that I have found in my own life looking back over the last 10 years:

    • I brought a baby into this world
    • I got a new car
    • I helped build a very successful network marketing business
    • I ran a successful summit bringing a ton of great information to people
    • I downsized our batting cage business in order to actually grow financially
    • I have paid off 90% of our debt that we had created in our business when the economy went south
    • I wrote half of my first book that will be published in 2020
    • I made many new friends
    • I ran two 5K’s

Now, if I had looked at all of these things in the negative of what I haven’t accomplished  my list would have looked like this:

    • I had another baby, which brought financial and emotional stress to me
    • I still have a 15yr old car that I thought we would be able to replace already
    • When I got pregnant I let our network marketing business fall off
    • My summit did not reach the number of people that I had imagined it would.
    • I quit my screen printing business
    • I am not out of debt yet, as I was expecting to be by now.
    • I haven’t finished my book that I have been writing for 3 years now
    • I wanted to run a 5K per quarter and I am still overweight.

Man, the first list felt way better to write!! And that is one of the first things we have to do is to learn to feel good. We have to learn to get ourselves in a higher vibration in order to keep things moving forward.  This isn’t to just say things that make you feel good in the moment and just stick your head in the ground about the things that you need to address in your life.  There are going to be things that are not 100% positive, but we have to look for the good in order to move forward and grow.  By starting with the things you have accomplished, you can see what the next steps are in order to finally reach the goals you have set.

We have to learn to get ourselves in a higher vibration in order to keep things moving forward.

By starting with the things you have accomplished, you can see what the next steps are in order to finally reach the goals you have set.

We can take my writing of my book for example.  If I look at this from the negative viewpoint of what I haven’t accomplished I will be telling myself that this has taken me so long already and that I am never going to finish this!  When I tell myself this it sends a message to my brain that I cannot finish writing a book.  Thus, every time I sit down to write I will have a block about what I am supposed to write.  I will sit and struggle with direction and flow and I will never finish this book.  By changing my mindset and how I picture this I will be able to see how much I have written.  I will then be able to sit and add incrementally to the book until I see completion.  Things will flow easier when I sit to write and the book will get finished sooner.

Where are you telling yourself that you have failed?  Where are you looking at something you did not accomplish and beating yourself up for it?  I encourage you to really look at the things you are telling yourself about your accomplishments and see where you are holding yourself back. See where you can change your wording to yourself, raise your vibration around it and start taking steps to get to your goal.

I would love to help you with your goals and what you are telling yourself.  Shoot me an email with your goals that you are trying to reach and why you think you haven't yet reached it and I will send you back some wording to use with yourself in order to get your brain on the right path to completion! success@iamazeme.com
